End Of Year Fair
St Paul Street Gallery, Auckland
3 December 2011
As a celebratory end to the year, D.A.N.C.E art club participated in St Paul Street Galleries End of Year Fair event in Auckland:
The end of year is usually marked by moments of gifting desperation brought on by the Christmas season. St Paul St Gallery intends alleviate the burden by hosting an End of Year Fair, mixing art, craft, design and performance. A fair where some things are for sale and some things aren’t.
The stall holders at the End of Year Fair include:
Books and works on paper, ranging from artists selling small works such as print maker Paul Chapman; limited edition letterpress publications printed by Pear Tree Press; photocopy zines by Andrew McLeod; and art and design publications including a stall held by NZ Post 2011 Book Awards winning publisher Rim Books and many more.
Contemporary art, object design and craft including a return of Tautai Trust’s successful Pacific Arts Village that wowed visitors and locals during the Rugby World Cup; ceramics by Black Winter; jewellery coming out of the Manukau School of Visual Arts programmes; and fashion by Elise Cox.
Projects and conversation opportunities spanning a stall dispensing advice run by the Artists Alliance; an opportunity to help plan the speaker line-up and workshops for We Can Create Two in 2012, led by The Church; and a chill out space created by Parlour offering lemonade and massage.
In addition to the stalls St Paul St Gallery has invited D.A.N.C.E. Art Club, Amber Pearson and Melissa Durbin to create interventions in the fair. On Friday night D.A.N.C.E. Art Club will create an atmosphere of a country or school fair, offering candy floss, experimental face painting, and music. Saturday will see Melissa Durbin work with visitors to the fair to create fortune cookies, and Amber Pearson perform in her Extension Suits carrying out itinerant and comical acts of futile labour. Atomic Coffee will be available throughout the Fair.
